There are doctors and researchers whose discoveries never see the light of day. Others have a hard time coming to conclusions when it comes to their research. Finding a new treatment that can save lives can be quite a career accomplishment.
Dr. Scott Rocklage has had a successful career in the healthcare field. Under his leadership three U.S. Drug Applications were approved by the FDA called Teslascan, Omniscan, and Cubicin. He is Managing Partner at 5AM Ventures which help life science companies in their beginning get the venture capital they need. With that being said Scott works hard to help on his part whether he is attending meetings, working with budding company’s management team, or researching new areas of life sciences. Dr. Rocklage also serves on many boards in 11 companies. He is a board member for WaveRx, and VBI Vaccines. Scott is on the Board of Directors for Pulmatrix, Novira Therapeutics, Rennovia, and Epirus Biopharmaceuticals. He is a chairman for Expansion Therapeutics and a Board Chairman for Achaogen, Relypsa, and a Board of Associates for Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. How does he do it all? Dr. Rocklage attended the University of California and got a BS in Chemistry. MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he got a Ph.D in Chemistry.
5AM Ventures bring together physicians, scientists, and business executives who are also entrepreneurs to bring ideas to life. Scott himself also attributes his organizational to how productive he is. He manages his time efficiently, uses a calendar, and prioritizes what needs immediate attention at the time. This makes life a lot less stressful and makes it so things get done. A growing trend that excites this doctor is the ability target certain genotypes and mutations to treat cancer. These exciting developments could potentially save many lives in the future.
Scott Rocklage says that taking risks in life and business are necessary for growth. If you don’t take risks in business than you could miss out on something spectacular. You never know. Scott took a risk to continue on with his education to graduate school. If he didn’t take the leap then he would not have opportunities he has today. Some of failures in life come from management and people. Looking forward he now focuses more on surrounding himself with the right people and focus more on them. It also is important to stay true to yourself and your company’s strengths. That will help you succeed in the end.
